Sooyeon Ham
South Korean pianist Soo-Yeon Ham began her international career by winning prizes in International competitions such as Shanghai, Dublin, Jeunesse Musicales in Serbia, Parnassos in Mexico, and special prize in Cleveland International Piano Competition. She was praised by many world renowned artist such as “Wonderful pianism and artistry ” by Sara Davis Buechner, “Phenomenal performance “ by John Perry and at Emanuel Ax’s masterclass in Aspen Music Festival, he said “I am taking all these down so I can do it !” And after the masterclass, she immediately got invited to Key West Music Festival in Florida, had 4 recital tour, where described her playing as “a formidable concert, beyond criticism”.
Her powerful yet graceful playing often compare to phenomenal Martha Argerich, Soo-Yeon gave numerous concerts at renowned concert halls in many cities in Asia, Europe and America, such as Seoul Arts Center and Sejong Art Center in Seoul, Korea, Shanghai Oriental Art Center, JiangSu, Lanzhou, Tangshan Grand Theater in China, National Concert Hall and National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin, Ireland, Benedict Music Tent in Aspen, CO, USA, Kolarac foundation Concert Hall in Belgrade Serbia, Monterrey City Hall in Mexico and etc.
She successfully played with numerous orchestra and well received, such as Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, JiangSu Philharmonic Orchestra, Korean Symphony Orchestra, Belgrade Radio-TV broadcast Orchestra, Mexico Monterrey Symphony Orchestra, RTE Philharmonic Orchestra in Dublin, St.Petersburg Radio broadcast orchestra, Seoul Symphony Orchestra, Royal Irish Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, Sunhwa Philharmonic Orchestra.
Since she moved to China in 2017, She played in 60 cities in China such as Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Daqing, Jiamusi, Chongqing, Guangzhou,
Shijiazhuang, Hengshui, Handan and etc. She was invited to Lanzhou International Piano Festival, Guangzhou Kayserberg Piano festival, Fingertips of
china Piano festival, Piano-Week Festival in Korea, Florida Key West Music Festival had concerts and masterclasses. She is a signed artist with Yangtze River piano in China, and she is now one of the most well-known and highly phrased foreign artist in China.
She graduated from Seoul National University with the top honors, under Prof. Hyoung-Joon Chang. She was selected to study in Ireland by World renowned Irish pianist John O’Conor, Continuing her study and did her masters in Royal Irish Academy of Music, Under Mr.O’Conor and Therese Fahy. She was teaching assistant of John O’Conor for 2 years in Shenandoah University in Virginia, USA, Then finished Doctorate Course work at Seoul National University, South Korea. Being an artist of international claim, Soo-Yeon Ham has profound experience in Both China and Korea’s musical world, and she is very enthusiastic in helping and promoting both countries young pianists to connect with each other and a create excitement in both countries, therefore in 2023, she Co-founded “Young Vivace Music Festival” and have attracted enormous amount of attention and participants from both countries.
She has been appointed as a professor in Hebei University-University of Central Lancashire since 2022. And she also served many piano competitions as a jury member such as Liszt Competition in China, Kayserberg, China Melbourne, Fingertips and Boya Competition in China.
